Evelyn Alice (Bigelow) Taylor was born August 14, 1922 to Ernest and Huldah Bigelow in New Hampton, Iowa. On September 16, 2020, the Lord called his faithful servant Evie, at age 98, into His glorious presence while at Taylor House Hospice.

Evie was married to Ivan (Bud) Taylor on July 4, 1947. Evie came to trust Christ as her personal savior in her teen years.

She taught in one-room school houses until she went to Northwestern Bible College in MN. In 1950 Bud and Evie went to Brazil under Baptist Mid-Missions as church planters. In 1954 they started a missionary children’s school as well as starting a Brazilian church. They remained in Fortaleza 14 years. On an extended furlough, they started Temple Baptist Church in Charles City, IA. Later on, they returned to southern Brazil for church planting and started a Brazilian Christian School. After Bud’s death, Evie moved further south and helped her son with the new church plant and helped teach Bible Institute students, as well as teaching in the missionary school. She retired from Baptist Mid-Missions in 1991. She lived with her daughter 12 years and was then transferred to Valley View Village in Des Moines, IA where she resided for 1 ½ years.

She is survived by her children: Lorene Burma of Pleasant Hill, and Philip Taylor (Mary Ruth) of Crawfordsville, IN; five grandchildren: Jason Burma (Julie) of Hutchinson, MN, Christy Long (Greg) of Des Moines, IA, James Taylor (Christen) of Florianopolis, Brazil, David Taylor (Sharon) of Winston-Salem, NC, Rachel Taylor of Lisbon, Portugal; twelve great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marie Bigelow of Nashua, IA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Evie was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Taylor; her parents, Ernest and Huldah Bigelow; six brothers: Allen, Bert, Robert, Stanely, Donald, and Harold Bigelow; two sisters, Anna Usher and Wilma Crandall; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 21, 2020 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Evelyn’s funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at Fellowship Baptist Church, 1503 SE 6th Street, Des Moines. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Nashua, Iowa.
