She grew up on a farm north of Eagleville, MO, where she enjoyed working on the family farm along with her dad. Maxine went to a one room school (Coates) until the 8th grade, then went to Eagleville for High School. While going to the Ottabine church, she met a nice looking young man (Leroy), who went home and told his mother that he was going to marry that red headed young lady. After moving to Lamoni, she joined the (RLDS) Community of Christ Church and supported her husband in his ministry.

While at home taking care of the children and all the other chores that go along with being a mother and a wife, Maxine found the time to go back to school and graduated from Lamoni High School in 1950.

One of Maxine’s loves was cooking. She worked at Graceland in the food service department for 8 years and 8 years as a sight manager for Dacatur County Meals on Wheels. She also enjoyed cooking at church reunions and having a pig roast every few years for the extended family. Maxine enjoyed many hobbies, a few of them were leather working, sewing, and working with her flowers.
