John graduated high school from Des Moines Hoover in 1972 and served in the United States Marine Corps where he worked in communications. From 1989-2000, John worked at Des Moines University’s College of Podiatric Medicine as a Podiatric Orthotic Specialist. In 2000, John moved to Edmonton, Canada to manage Ultrex Podiatric Laboratories.

Since returning to Iowa in 2011, John has enjoyed volunteering at Catholic Worker House in Des Moines and working part-time at Kohl’s. His pleasant smile and caring heart will be missed by his family and many life-long friends. John loved playing his guitar, listening to live music, watching movies and spending time with his children.

Memorial service, open to friends and family, will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2017, at Greenwood Park, Sylvan Amphitheatre, in Des Moines, IA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to benefit John’s five youngest children’s educational needs.
