Bernie Mauk
July 06, 1950 — January 25, 2025
Bernard Wayne Mauk, age 74, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2025.
Bernie was born July 6, 1950, in St. Louis, Missouri to Glen and Phyllis (Riggs) Mauk. He was a graduate of East High School, Class of 1968. Bernie had a varied career, working for Meredith Publishing, Armstrong Tire, Firestone, FedEx as a courier, and John Deere.
His hobbies included anything active and outdoors. He loved skiing, biking, camping, boating, jet skiing, and hunting. Family vacations were his favorite pastime, and anything involving his granddaughters brought him joy. Boating trips took them to Lake Okoboji, Clear Lake, and Lake of the Ozarks. He loved visiting his family in California, Mission, Texas, and Lake Havasu, Arizona. Skiing vacations held special memories. Bernie was especially proud of the time he was able to take three generations down the Double Black Diamond Run - Drainpipe, at Copper Mountain, Colorado. Bernie enjoyed motorcycles from a young age, especially Harley Davidsons. He put his motorcycle hobby on hold to dedicate his time to his family. He returned to riding later in life. He had attended Sturgis’ bike rally every year since 2015 with his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Mauk; children, Jamison (Stacy) Mauk, Lyndsay (Ryan) Solomon, and Kara Mauk; granddaughters, Addison, Charlee, and Teagan; sisters, Jan (Dan) Steele, Deb (Fred) Melichar, Judy (Joe) Beltrame; brother, Kevin (Kathy) Mauk; and many nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
Bernie was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents.
Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. There will be a visitation following until approximately 2:00 p.m.

I wonder if Bernie worked with my father. Van Rossi was in the bindery until R.R. Donnelley closed in 2002. Worked the swing shift beginning in about 1969.

So sorry for your loss Carol & Family
Gonna miss you Bernie!!
We met at Retired Friends Breakfast Club, Thank You Dennis Williams for the introduction, and we were friends just like that! We both loved Harley's and Sturgis, and skiing and live music, so we had plenty of things to talk about.
RIP Bernie 🙏🏻
