Janice Elaine Quass
May 10, 2023
Janice Elaine Quass, 85, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2023 with family by her side.
Janice was born September 23, 1937, to Lars and Annette Egeberg in Orfordville, WI. She received a BA degree in English, Spanish and secondary education from Luther College in 1959 and later earned a Master’s Degree in English from Drake University while raising three young children. After many years of teaching English at Norwalk High School and Grand View University, Janice retired in the summer of 2000.
Janice lived a full and meaningful life, with a focus on the things that truly mattered to her. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's activities and staying connected with her loved ones. Her involvement in the Lutheran church, volunteering, and teaching also demonstrated a dedication to helping others and making a positive impact in her community. But it was faith, family, friends, and education that were most important to her. Janice's legacy will surely live on through the many lives she touched.
She will be missed by her husband of 63 years, LaVerne Quass; children, Kyle (Heather) Quass, Bloomington, IN, Tara (Tom) Quass, Decorah, IA, Kevin (Julie) Quass, Ankeny, IA; sisters, Doris (Jerry) Roehl, Janesville, WI and Alice (Larry) Feuerstein, Scottsdale, AZ; five grandchildren, Colin (Kylie) Quass, Berit (20) Quass, Rondi (18) Quass, Nicolas (24) Woosley and Abby (18) Woosley of Decorah, IA; and two great-grandchildren, Stella (2) and Scarlett (1).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lars and Annette Egeberg.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 26, 2023 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1105 Grand Avenue in West Des Moines with visitation taking place one hour prior. If guests are not able to attend the service in person, the family invites friends to join them virtually by clicking the livestream link at the bottom of the obituary below and accessible on the day of the service.

I am so sorry for your loss and send my sincere condolences. Janice was a wonderful colleague, mentor, and friend at Grand View as we worked together on all things English including the Writing Workshop. Her gentle spirit lives on.
