Katherine Ann Blomquist, 73, passed away on May 2, 2023, at Harmony Nursing Home in West Des Moines. She was born in Des Moines on December 27, 1949, the daughter of Harry and Elsa (Grodt) Blomquist.

She graduated from North High School and completed one year of Bible college and a degree in nursing. She retired from Martin Luther Homes in Des Moines as an RN.

Throughout her life, Katherine pursued diverse interests. She enjoyed nature and the outdoors, sailing, canoeing, camping and especially scuba diving. She harbored a lifelong fascination with the American frontier and Native American cultures. She was a spiritual person and attended Grace United Methodist Church. However, her greatest passion of all may have been chocolate.

Katherine is survived by her sons, West (Lisa) Steel and Beau Gilbert and sister, Karla Fisher.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Karen Powers and brothers, Carl and John Blomquist.
