Dennis Knight
October 07, 2021
Dennis Wayne Knight, 79, passed away on October 7, 2021, at Mercy Hospice Johnston. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa on December 1, 1941, to Floyd and Enes Knight.
Dennis graduated from Saydel High School in 1960. He faithfully dedicated his working years to John Deere in Ankeny before retiring at 53. After retirement, he loved spending his time outdoors. He preferred the back roads to the busy highways, and enjoyed the journey to his favorite fishing spots just as much as the lakes he fished on. Gardening was also a passion, his flowers overflowing around a lawn that could never be green enough.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Shirley; children, Jodie (Jon Silverstein) Knight, Julie (Scott) Wood and Steve (Toni) Knight; grandchildren, Taylor (Chase), Cory and Brianna; sisters, Janet Cross and Karen Ruffcorn; brother-in-law, Bob (Maggie) Higday; numerous nieces and nephews.
Family will greet visitors from 4-7 p.m., on Monday, October 11, 2021 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 12, at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Hope Ministries, in loving memory of Dennis.

Dennis gave me the chance to grow up with all his children. I didnt know him, but if a man were to be judged by those he left behind, Dennis left a legacy. Julie and Jodie were beautiful, popular and smart back in school. Steve was younger but I became great friends with this decent man whom surely is a chip off the block. Judging Dennis by those three, he was clearly a great and decent man. Father and husband alike. My sincere condolences at the loss of your companion, mentor, and friend. God bless.
