Our beautiful son, Austin Steven Wade, was born September 7, 2004. We then had our boy and our two girls, and he completed our family. Austin sustained a brain injury at five weeks of age because of a VKDB. He lived his 16 years filling each moment with joy and love. He taught us so much without ever speaking a word.
Austin had the most infectious laugh and the most kissable cheeks. He had a peaceful spirit and a happy disposition. Austin loved any type of movement, especially bouncing on his ball and being in the water, listening to music, sucking his thumb, and his two dogs. Above all, he loved being with his family.
Austin had many adventures in his 16 years. He had an amazing village of people who helped make his life wonderful. He attended Boone High School and was supported by his many teachers, therapists, nurses and doctors. Austin loved hearing other kids, being outside, and going on walks. Austin passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines.
He will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Darrin and Jennifer Wade; sisters, Abigail and Amber Wade; grandparents, Eileen Long, Ronald and Nancy Rold, Kathleen Wade, and Steven and Rebecca Wade; aunts and uncles, Renee and Mitch Godbee, Daniel Rold, Amy and Carlos Ruiz, David Blue, Tonya Wade, Jennifer Heydn, and Megan Wade; and numerous cousins, great-aunts and great-uncles, and other loving family.
Austin was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Nute and Audrey Blue, Vernetta and Leonard Rold, Mr. and Mrs. Wade, and Mr. and Mrs. Nelson.
The family will celebrate Austin’s life privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the VKDB Documentary via Paypal at VKDBDocumentary@gmail.com. Contributions will be used to help complete the documentary on Vitamin K Deficiency Bleeds which caused Austin’s brain injury and will significantly increase awareness for this condition.
