Evelyn L. Nester (wife of Tony)
February 07, 2018
Evelyn Louise Nester was born June 29, 1947, in Nyack, New York, the daughter of Leif and Mary (Minchinton) Erickson. Her career as an obstetrical nurse allowed her to serve families at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Bergan Hospital in Omaha, NE, and Allen Hospital in Waterloo, IA. Active in her church, her involvements included choir, bell choir, Sunday School teacher, nursery coordinator, as well as many other activities. Evelyn’s first priority was her family. She gave her family and friends the gift of hospitality, putting thought and purpose into every occasion. She found joy in her grandchildren, feeling pride and love for each one. She also enjoyed baking, quilting, knitting, hiking, and special times in Colorado.
Evelyn passed on into the Lord’s presence in the comfort of her own home on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at the age of 70. She was surrounded by the love of her family.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Dr. Tony R. Nester; children, Charissa (Dave) Konz, Keith (Estelle) Nester and Carolyn (Chase) Petsche; grandchildren, Benjamin and Abigail Konz, Devon, Jesse and Drew Nester, and Olivia, Elise and Penelope Petsche; brothers, Tom (Janet) Erickson and Bruce (Debbie) Erickson; as well as a host of other loving extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leif and Mary Erickson and twin sons in infancy, Matthew and John.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Service of Death and Resurrection at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 12, 2018, at Altoona United Methodist Church. Evelyn will be interred at Prairie Union Cemetery in Clinton County, Iowa on Tuesday, February 13 at 12:00 p.m.

Dear Tony and family, our hearts are with all of you. It was such a gift to know Evelyn during your time in Sioux City. She is the epitome of generosity, grace, humor and strength; certainly things that defined her as a nurse, a friend, a wife, mother and grandmother. I count it a true blessing to have known her. Prayers and love coming your way.

Emptiness fills our hearts at the news of Evelyns passing. Her strength and character left an everlasting mark on us. Her cheery outlook on life was a positive influence on all she met. Evelyn gave me lots of good advice on our long walks. Her common sense approach to problem solving was usually right on target. Evelyn was an intelligent, compassionate, and uplifting person. She will be missed.

My sympathies to the family. I only met Evelyn briefly, as she cared for me 32 years ago, during the birth of my first child at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. I will forever cherish the superb support and compassion she provided me as she took part in a precious family event. I have never forgotten her all these years later. A wonderful person indeed!
