Steven Swift
July 18, 1968 — January 24, 2024
Steven James Swift, 55, passed away unexpectedly on January 24, 2024. He was born in Des Moines, on July 18, 1968 to Dale and Gretchen (Schwartz) Swift.
Steven graduated from North High School in 1986 and went on to receive a BA from Grandview University. Family was everything to Steven and he enjoyed every minute spent with them, from relaxing at the Ozarks to any family gathering. Steven, along with his brother Michael were 3rd generation owners of Swift’s Trails End Auto Recycling.
Steven was a gentle giant, if you asked anyone, they would tell you that his zest for life was above anything you could imagine. He was witty, funny, kindhearted and generous beyond measure. But above anything in his life, his boys were his greatest accomplishment. His love for them went beyond imagination.
Steven is survived by his sons, Benjamin Swift and Nicholas Swift; mother, Gretchen Swift; siblings, Michael (Tracy) Swift, Susan (James) Fidler and Wendi (Rob) Roush; former wife, Kelly Swift, along with many nieces and nephews and a long list of beloved friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Dale Swift.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, February 4, 2024 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, Iowa.
Steven was an avid Iowa State Cyclones fan; the family has requested that all guests wear Cyclone attire – GO CLONES!!!
Memorial contributions may be directed to Steven’s family, for his sons.

Steve was always in the home room that sold the most Pancake Breakfast tickets at NHS. I never understood...how did he sell all those tickets??? Steve and his family were wonderful examples of helping within the community and the money they raised for NHS was a beautiful thing. Safe travels Steve.

Steve was such an awesome person! He would do anything for anyone. Whenever he came over he always tried to encourage my dog to go home with him. Steve was always a part of our family and will be so deeply missed. May you rest in peace!
