Rosemary McClain, 81, passed away on Monday April 20,2026 at Lutheran hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born on November 14, 1944 to Otto and Hilda (Mariacher) Schwartz in Pardoe, PA,

Rosemary will be cremated in accordance to her wishes.

Rosemary lived in Mason City before moving to Altoona, where she managed Marilyn’s Hallmark. She had a deep love for her Miniature Schnauzers, who meant the world to her. Rosemary enjoyed many hobbies, especially crocheting, and she had a special fondness for all things Christmas, a season that brought her great joy.

Rosemary is survived by her Husband John McClain of Altoona, Iowa. Her son Doug Chodur (Diana) and their child Donavan of Newton, Iowa. Her Daughter, Debra Flippo (Kevin) and their children Joshua and Michael and great grandchildren Theodore, Haylie and Kevin. Her son Daniel Chodur (Tricia) of Altoona, Iowa and their children Ethan and Eric. Her step-sons, Mike McClain and John McClain.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father Hilda and Otto Schwartz; granddaughter Alisha and great-granddaughter Michelle.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 11:30 a.m., at Trinity on 5th, 602 5th Ave SW, Altoona, Iowa. Family will greet guests starting at 11:00 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the ARL-Animal Rescue League of Iowa, 5452 NE 22nd Street, Des Moines, Iowa 50313, in loving memory of Rosemary.
