Patricia “Pat” Caffrey

Patricia (Pat) Ann Caffrey of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home on January 28, 2025 surrounded by her family.

Pat was born September 19, 1936 in Panora, Iowa the daughter of Oscar Howard Wilson and Hazel Marie (Richards) Wilson. She grew up the Waukee area and graduated from Waukee High School in 1954. Following graduation Pat began her career working for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, staying with the company through various positions and name changes and proudly retired on August 11, 1995 with 39+ years of service.

On January 17, 1959, she married Donald “Don” Caffrey at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee. Together they settled on the northside of Des Moines and raised four children. They were married 43 years until Don’s passing on Thanksgiving morning, November 28, 2002.

Pat loved spending time with her family whether traveling with her children, attending sporting events of the grandkids, cooking specially requested meals or having the grandchildren stay overnight. She enjoyed working in her yard, shopping for just the right gift and her monthly “old hen” luncheons.

Pat is survived by her daughters Sheryl Caffrey and Teri Williams of Des Moines, Iowa and sons Donald “Don” Caffrey, Jr. of Des Moines, Iowa and Patrick “PJ” Caffrey of Urbandale, Iowa; grandchildren Nicole “Nikki” Williams, Brandon Williams, Kelsey (Logan) Beguhn, Taylor Caffrey and Cade Caffrey; great-grandchildren Briana Siders, Thomas “TJ” Williams and Campbell Beguhn; brothers Jerry Wilson of Sun Valley, CA and Larry Wilson of Surprise, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Hazel; husband Don; granddaughter Tiffany Marie Caffrey; sister Donna Coats; brothers Ronald and Norman Wilson.

A visitation will be held on Monday, February 3, 2025 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm and the funeral mass will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at All Saints Catholic Church, Des Moines, Iowa. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, Des Moines, Iowa.
