Orian L. Smith Jr.

Orian LeRoy Smith Jr., 86, passed away October 24, 2023 at the VA Hospital.
He was born February 1, 1937 in Des Moines, Iowa to his parents, Orian Sr. and Mildred (Harris) Smith. Butch retired from Delavan Manufacturing after many years of faithful service. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Butch was a long-time member of All Saints Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed his time at the lake fishing and most importantly family get togethers.
Butch is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Mable Smith; sons, Steven (Pam) Smith and John (Judy) Smith; step children, Susan (Mike) Ray, Leonard (Kim) Walters, Les (Becky) Walters, and Alan (Lisa) Walters; 25 grandchildren; and 30 great grandchildren; sisters, Beryl Smith and Cindy Davis; numerous nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 32 years, Dorothy Smith; parents; son, Daniel Smith; daughter, Stacie Hotchkiss; siblings, Irene Miller, Neva Helm, and Robert Smith.
Service will be held Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue Des Moines, Iowa. Family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with Catholic Funeral Service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will occur directly following at Glendale Cemetery, 4909 University Avenue Des Moines, Iowa

Smitty was a great man, a good co worker and supervisor. It was great getting chances to see him at Rathbun once in a while after we both had retired. God bless my friend and his family.
