Service Details

Mark Allen Wilderman went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 22, 2024.

60 years ago, Mark was welcomed into this world by his parents Dick and Lynne Wilderman on June 13, 1963, in Iowa City, Iowa. Mark attended East High School and then went onto the University of Northern Iowa, graduating with a teaching degree. He loved kids and taught in the Des Moines School District for 22 years. Mark will always be known for his HUGE heart. He had a soft spot for the underdog and anyone in need of help. He was a loyal friend, starting with inviting his buddies to his dad’s A&W for a free meal or two… or three or four. Although he had his share of struggles, he rarely complained. Mark lived by bachelor rules. We often had to try and find him during Wilderman family vacations because he wandered off frequently. His Yorkie dogs were his kids and they were treated as such. Those “dogs” were always by his side. He brought his guitar to family gatherings and taught lessons at the School of Rock. When the nieces were little, they actually thought Mark wrote John Mellencamp’s Small Town. Most of all, we will miss Mark’s quick wit and his many shenanigans that made us cry with laughter.

Those left to cherish Mark’s memory include his devoted father Dick Wilderman (Judy); sister Melanie Sesker (Kahl), and their kids Korbin (Ryley), Aubrey and Grace; sister-in-law Angie Wilderman, and kids Chantelle Nielsen (Kody), Brianna and Hope; great nieces Harper and Willow Nielsen, great nephew Kahl Sesker III; and friend Rhonda Froehle.

Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents Bob and Mary Wilderman and Mel and Lucile Roupe; his mother Lynne; and brother Kelly. Lynne is undoubtedly rejoicing with all of her boys!

Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 30, 2024, with funeral service following at 11:00 a.m., at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League in memory of Mark Wilderman. Condolences may be left at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com
