Linda Kay Snyder
February 25, 1944 — January 08, 2024
Linda Kay Snyder, 79, passed away on January 8, 2024 from complications of dementia. She was born on February 25, 1944 to Leo and Josephine (Becraft) Day in Port Orchard, Washington.
Linda was an LPN for many years. She and her first husband, Eldon Pottorff, owned and operated a private nursing home in Greenfield, Iowa. After their son, Devin, died in a car accident, they moved to Des Moines where they purchased a nursing home and operated that together for several years.
After Eldon and Linda divorced, Linda moved to Thayer, Iowa where she married her second husband, Gerald Snyder. She continued her nursing home career at Afton Care Center where she retired from after many years of service. She was a long-time member of Pleasant Valley Church in Thayer.
Linda had a love for the outdoors and animals. Having lived on a farm for most of her adult life, she spent hours tending to her flower gardens, doting on her animals including her cats, dogs, horses, and cattle; and feeding her numerous hummingbirds that swarmed her home regularly. She was vibrant, energetic, generous, and most of all, kind. She will be missed by so many who loved her.
Linda is survived by her daughter, Lydia (Tim) Gerhart; step-son, John Snyder; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother, Leo Day; former spouse, Eldon Pottorff and a host of beloved family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald Snyder; son, Devin Pottorff; daughter, Malynda Pottorff; step-son, Gerald (Betty) Vernon Snyder, Jr.; and great-grandson, Matteo Gerhart.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 15, 2024 at 2:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street S.W., Altoona, Iowa.
Memorial contributions may be directed to family in loving memory of Linda.
