Service Details

Leland Theodore (Ted) Dingman, 68, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away at home unexpectedly on Thursday, June 13, 2024, after prolonged health issues; just one month shy of his 69th birthday.

Ted was born July 10, 1955, in Des Moines, Iowa to Leland Thomas (Tom) and Nancy (Gibson) Dingman. He was the oldest of four children. He graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1975, having received vocational training in diesel mechanics. Ted had an extensive career at Innovative Injection Tech (I2-Tech), located in West Des Moines, of 48 years as Press Operator and trained many new recruits.

Ted was a loving son, brother, and friend. He enjoyed spending time with family, work family, and his cat. Before their passing, Ted cared for his parents Tom and Nancy Dingman. He also enjoyed a simple life: working, trying his luck at Lottery tickets, collecting new and rare coins, and, mostly, the quiet comforts of home. He was known for his quiet, calm demeanor, and had a fondness for jokes and vintage television shows and movies. There were so many things in life that seemed of little significance to Ted, but he cherished family and would often recall memories of family gatherings, graduation parties, taffy pulls, weddings, and especially of family fishing trips to Canada.

Ted lived in Des Moines his entire life and lived in his current family home for over 57 years and enjoyed his annual outing to the Iowa State Fair. He would spend three or four days there enjoying people watching, eating fair food, and satiating his insatiable sweet tooth.

Ted’s passions were for gadgets and tools of any kind, electronics, automobiles, automobile mechanics, remote toy cars and semis, and had many various collections. He had a warm smile, a silly giggle and bright blue eyes that lit up when he chuckled.

Ted is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by his brother Kevin (Sherry) Dingman of Washington, brother Brian (Rhonda) Dingman of Oregon, sister Kellie (Scott) Phelps of Des Moines, nephew Brad (Heather) Dingman, nephew Eric (Joy) Dingman, nephew Jake Dingman, niece Kelsey (Peter) Gray, nephew Connor Phelps of Des Moines, and many other loving family members.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents Tom and Nancy Dingman of Des Moines.

There will be a graveside service at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 7601 Fleur Dr., Des Moines, IA 50321, at 10 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2024.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to I2-Tech for their compassionate care of Ted and our long-time planners at Ascendant Wealth Management Group – Ameriprise Financials Services, LLC for your steadfast and caring commitment to our family.
