Larry Dean Conrath
December 12, 1937 — April 12, 2024
Larry Dean Conrath was born December 12, 1937, to Audley and Doris Conrath. He went to heaven on April 12, 2024.
Larry grew up in the Valley Drive area, with his sister, Carol and brothers, Roger, Jimmy and Audley, attending Jefferson Elementary School and then on to Lincoln High School where he lettered in wrestling, football and track. After graduation he worked in multiple supervisory positions and finished his career as a school bus driver for the Des Moines Public Schools.
As a young adult he wed Norma and they had two children, Mike and Lorrie. In 1971 he married his forever love Mary. Together they had Ryan and Holly.
Larry was a family man. He loved his wife of 52 years, Mary, and cherished his kids, grandkids, and nieces and nephews. He was an excellent role model.
After retirement he enjoyed his recliner where he watched his favorite TV shows; The Andy Griffith Show, The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, and The Golden Girls. He passed away in his recliner with the people who loved him by his side. He will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Ryan; daughters, Lorrie (Ben) and Holly (Armond); granddaughters, Gabby, Ally, Sophia and Lylah.
The family will greet friends Monday, April 22, 2024, from 5 pm to 6 pm with a memorial service to follow at 6 pm at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.
Memorial contributions may be directed to DMARC Food Pantry in loving memory of Larry.

I worked with Larry at hertz rental cars about 30 yrs. ago I always enjoyed spending time with him eating lunch at Xing Zao listening to cub games on the radio when waiting to move cars and listening to him tell stories about his days playing football at Lincoln, he always honked his horn when he drove by my house when he was on his bus route. I hope he is as peace now I'm so sorry I lost touch with him.

I had met many of the Conrath kids through my Mom's Uncle Aud and Aunt Doris. My grandfather Les was the oldest sibling of Doris Eaton. Mom often spoke of the fun and at times annoyances of those young Conrath kids particularly Roger and Larry while growing up in Valley Garden. Condolences to the family. It seems like Larry had a good life.
