Gregory "Greg" Tucker
October 03, 1949 — March 20, 2024
Gregory Tucker, age 74, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, in Des Moines, Iowa surrounded by family. He was born the son of Jerry and Selma Tucker on October 3, 1949, in Kirksville, Missouri.
Greg’s work ethic was unparalleled, and he excelled at his career in investment banking. He was a leader and mentor to many, in and out of the field. Greg was known to go with the flow, bringing unlimited amounts of humor and joy to any situation. He was the biggest prankster and always had a cockroach in his pocket.
Greg was a proud father, always eager to hear about his children’s interests and accomplishments. He was a loving grandfather who always came bearing gifts. Greg was a selfless man with a big heart and a smile that lit up the room. He was willing to help others at the drop of a hat and always made sure everyone had a good time in his presence. Above all, he loved his family and ice cream. You could spot him in a crowded room with his sunglasses, Hawaiian shirt, and a cigar in hand.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving children George Tucker and Gregory (Danielle) Tucker, grandchildren Jackson, Charli, and Frankie, siblings Rod (Teri) Tucker, nieces and nephews Jenna, Zak, and Christy, and former wife of 35 years and mother of his children Stacey Ganakes Tucker.
Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 30, 2024, with funeral service following at 2:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.

My heart is sad, along with Greg’s family and others who knew Greg well. What I am not sad about is the great memories I have to hold onto of all the times I spent around him. He was one of my “best and closest friends” in late childhood and early adulthood. What has been said about Greg always wanting to have fun and play jokes is true, as was as enjoying a good cigar….whether playing cards, playing golf or just having a beverage. We lived in the same neighborhood and our parents were also friends. Greg and I frequently went skiing at the lake along with others. We also “cleaned and polished” cars together, played golf and probably even caused some mischief at times. We also enjoyed “working” at the shoe store together and usually competing with each other for sales. Greg has passed on, but will never be forgotten….Rest in Peace forever my friend.

I knew Greg through my banking career as one of his clients. We met some 40 years ago. I have numerous memories of conversations over the years. Every conversation was full of high energy and humor. He always had the right attitude about life and what the real meaning of life is about. Feel blessed that I knew him as a friend and business colleague. My deepest condolences to the family.

Greg and I became friends in elementary school. We both attended Benton, in Kirksville. We played football together at Kirksville Jr High. After I got out of the service Greg and I weight lifted together in the basement of Tuckers Toys! Always a good time around Greg! Our condolences to the family!

Greg and I were good friends in high school and I always appreciated his sense of humor. He showed up one day at my house, in his full baseball catchers gear, to apologize for something. He was a special part of my time at KHS. Hugs and prayers for his family.
