Glenn Ellsworth Waychoff Jr.
Des Moines, Iowa

Glenn Ellsworth Waychoff Jr., 81, passed away on July 18, 2024. He was born on February 6, 1943 to Glenn and Lois (Davis) Waychoff.

To Glenn his family and friends were the most important “thing” in his life. He cherished every moment – those moments included watching every sporting event his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren participated in. He had to sell his prize 1961 Chevy to make room for the additions (children) to his family. But all was ok, because he only had to downsize to a 1953 Chevy. Glenn loved sports, sports of all kinds – fishing, ball, hunting, golf, ping pong, and shooting pool. He enjoyed woodworking and playing cards. You would even find him at times enjoying a visit to the Casino and their buffet. Glenn started working at the age of 12. He worked hard his entire life. Glenn worked side jobs on top of his full-time job to pay for sporting equipment for his kids. He retired as a meat department manager after several years working for Super Valu and Hy Vee. Glenn was raised by his grandparents, Howard and Rebecca Davis. He considered all of his cousins as his brothers. Glenn and his family have many memories of special times and events in his lifetime but two of the most memorable ones were when he played golf and slow pitch softball with his family. It’s hard to summarize what a great husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend Glenn was in a paragraph. But to those who were fortunate enough to have known him, you’re one lucky person.

Glenn is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl; daughters, Debbie (Steve) Wells and Jill (Kevin) Griffin; son, Glenn Waychoff III; step-sister, Denise McPherson; grandchildren, Taylor Waychoff (Ricky Sawyer), Dustin (Samantha) Wells, Brittany Grochala, Nicholas (Madison) Grochala, Jacob (Alissa) Waychoff, Jessica Grochala, Summer (Taylor) Bianchi, Tanner Smith and Iziah Waychoff; great grandchildren, Trenton Sawyer, Jamie Ross, Carter Waychoff, Mia Sawyer, Ellie Wells, Corbin Waychoff, Harper Wells, Chloe Waychoff, Jayla Bianchi and Kamrynn Grochala.

He is preceded in death by his parents; step-brothers, Scott Waychoff and David Dolph and great grandson, Neo Smith.

Family will greet guests on Monday, July 29, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m., at Hamiltons Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. A funeral service will follow visitation at 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Ave., in Des Moines.
