Geneva F. Sloan

Geneva Francine Sloan, 97, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2025 at Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born June 3, 1927 to Gideon and Etta (Sams) Trager in Oskaloosa. She was the youngest of 9 siblings.
Geneva spent her adult life in What Cheer, Oskaloosa and lastly, Des Moines, where she met and married the love of her life, Pat Sloan. Together they traveled the world, boated on Lake Rathbun and spent as much time as possible with family.
Geneva enjoyed bowling with her friends…especially the “Lunch Bunch”. And she wasn’t a stranger to Prairie Meadows and often won jackpots on the slot machines.
Geneva was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star Lodge and enjoyed many years of service in various stations. She was also a member of the King’s Daughters.
Geneva is survived by her son, Larry (Karla) Pringle; granddaughter, Stacy (Josh) Walters; and the joys of her life, great-grandchildren, Luke and Lily Walters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Sloan, nine brothers and sisters, her parents, and baby daughter, Connie Lee.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice Serenity House, 630 North 12th Street, Oskaloosa, IA 52577.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, and will be followed by a reception.

My condolences. I’m so glad Geneva & Mom were able to be together at Homestead. They had a very special friendship—90 years, friends since kindergarten. ❤️
