Freda Loretta Hiatt

Freda Loretta Hiatt, age 104, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023. Freda was born November 12, 1919, in Lamoni, IA to Orville Perry and Daisy Odessa (Zika) Creveling, where she grew up on a farm and would go to church by horse and carriage. Freda helped her Aunt Etta Zika raise her three younger siblings after her mother passed away at age 10. Freda graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines when she was 16, married Charles Curtis Hiatt, and after many years of being a telephone operator in Des Moines, retired from Northwestern Bell in 1982. Freda was a member of St John's Lutheran church downtown for over 80 years and attended with her daughter up until about five years ago. Reading the newspaper daily, tending to her beautiful flower gardens, and spoiling her many kitties throughout the years all brought her joy.

Survived by her devoted caretaker and daughter, Donna Rae (Alden) Skinner, her son Jim (Toni) Hiatt, and four grandchildren, Kyle (Angela) Skinner, Troy (Heather) Skinner, Darcee Skinner, and Jimmy Hiatt, as well as seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, her brother Joe Creveling, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Orville and Daisy Creveling, husband Curt Hiatt, son Jack Hiatt, and her siblings Jack Creveling, Bruce Creveling, and Doris Jean Potts.
