Doris Heaberlin, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. She was born the daughter of Mamie and Glen Walker on May 30, 1942, in Altoona, Iowa.

Gaylen and Doris were teenage sweethearts and married on May 29, 1959. They met at a Softball game in Percy, Iowa and were married for 65 years. Doris was a lifetime member of Centennial United Methodist Church at Ivy. All of her adult life she was a part of the UMW’s organization at her church. She was an Altoona 4H girls club leader for the Clayettes. She was proud to be a military spouse. She loved her family, Christmas, shopping, and enjoyed good deals. She loved all types of animals. Doris carried on a family tradition of Saturday morning coffee for 15 years and everyone was welcome. She was very famous for her cinnamon rolls, everyone in the family loved them and wanted to know her “secret recipe.” She loved to go to Prairie Meadows and Meskwaki. When the kids were young, Springbook State Park was their favorite place to go camping. You could often find her watching game shows and sports, especially golf. She loved playing Yahtzee with anyone willing to play. She will be deeply missed by everyone.

She is survived by her husband, Gaylen; children, Marcella (Tim) Campbell, Jeffrey (Jane) Heaberlin, Melissa (Steve) Shaver, Melinda (Terry) Britt; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Gary Heaberlin; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Vivian Tingley, Floyd Walker, and Roberta Marshall.

Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m., Sunday, December, 15, 2024, at Centennial United Methodist Church, 9150 NE University Ave., Altoona, Iowa. A funeral service will take place on Monday, December 16, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at Centennial United Methodist Church at Ivy, 9150 NE University Ave., Altoona, Iowa 50009. Burial will take place at Canfield Cemetery, with lunch to follow at the church.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Centennial United Methodist Church at Ivy or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Doris.
