Carol Anne Tetmeyer
February 07, 1944 — November 20, 2023
Carol Anne Tetmeyer passed away on Monday, November 20th. She was surrounded by family, and listening to ‘Nutcracker’ music.
Carol was born in New York City in 1944 and moved to Ames at a young age. She graduated from Ames High School, then went on to study for her Bachelor’s in dance at the University of Utah, and finished her degree at Iowa State University. Carol married her husband Larry in 1964, and together they added a son, Andy and four daughters, Annette, Trish, Jenny and Kelli to their family. Carol Tetmeyer Dance Studio also began in 1964, when Carol opened her own business, worked for herself teaching dance for 59 years, and truly enjoyed every second. Aside from dance, education was Carol’s other passion, and she remained actively involved in her family’s education. She volunteered with her children at Cornell Elementary, she was a member of the Dowling High School Board and donated her time as a Teacher’s Aide at Holy Family School with her grandchildren. She was a supporter to all of their educational endeavors.
Many lives were touched by her infectious love for dance and music, patient instruction, unwavering support, and unconditional love she constantly demonstrated to her family, friends, and students. Carol is a beloved member of her communities, she is a long-time parishioner at St. Ambrose Cathedral, and regularly participates in donation events for charitable organizations. Carol spent many hours as a as a leader and volunteer with Camp Fire.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents Evelyn Anderson, John Lasche, and siblings Jimmy, Tommy, Mary Jo, Larry. She is survived by her brother Jack, her sister Susan, her loving husband of 59 years (Larry), her son Andy (Kate) and their children Ruby, Drew, Bridget; her daughter Annette (Michael); her daughter Trish and her children Kayla and Dylan; her daughter Jen (Paul) and her children Regan, Morgan, Camryn, and Evelyn; her daughter Kelli (Eric) and her children Marika, Sedrik, and Emma. I worked with Carol at Principal Financial Group many years ago. I went to numerous dance concerts at Saydel. I worked with the girls club at Bethany Church, and they were working on getting their dance badges, so we asked Carol if we could go over to her studio and learn some moves for the girls. They had a really good time. They sent Thank You cards to Carol in appreciation for taking the time to teach them a few moves in the brief time we had together.
Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers in the upcoming days.

I was so sorry to hear if Carols passing. She was such a huge supporter of my mom, Mary Joyce Lind. Carol was around throughout my youth as the DM Civic Ballet rehearsed and performed Nutcracker and Spring concerts. Always a friendly, familiar face and dedicated teacher and mentor. Its wonderful to read the messages and how much she gave to the dance community.

Dear Jenny, Larry and loving family of Carol - I am so sorry for your loss. Carol clearly touched so many lives - for so many of us through dance. I attribute my earliest sense of discipline to her, as she showed me that loving the dance craft took hard work and perseverance! I will never forget how much she supported us girls, and how much she really believed in us. Thank you so much for everything, Carol!! <3

Tetmeyer family,
We are heartbroken at your devastating loss. We are grateful for the many generosities she showered on our family and many other children and families. She was our daughter's second mom.
There can be no doubt she has already mastered dancing with her wings!

My thoughts and prayers go out to all the Carol Tetmeyer family and the many people she touched. The Carol Tetmeyer Dance Studio was not a business, it was a beautiful movement. Even when families experienced financial disparity the children would still dance. Over the years it was a fantastic experience to see all those smiling, dancing faces. It was Grace.
Praise his name in the dance.

We are so sorry to hear of Carols death. She was a wonderful person and that showed in her dance studio where kindness and inclusion were the cornerstones of her business. We have so many happy dance memories, and Lauren is so grateful to have had Carol as her dance teacher during her K-12 years. We hope you get to hear and share many lovely stories of Carol as you gather together to honor and remember her.

No words can ease a loss this devastating! My heart goes out to Larry, all the kids and grands. I am standing by to help on anyway I can! I hope her reunion in heaven, with my mom, her brothers and parents is GLORIOUS🌠 I am so sorry, my heart breaking for all of you. Love, Zest
P.S. I have countless memories of holidays, summers and Disneyland with your family!
I had an unexpected ( vut welcomed chuckle) remembering playing Hammerschlagen with Aunt Carol in the back yard! She never missed out on a good time, that's for sure! And she loved and cherished her family above all else💗 She will continue to love and cherish you all, as she watches over and protects you with her Angel wings on.
