Billy Joe Henry, 77, passed away on February 19, 2025 at Prairie Vista Village in Altoona. He was born in Des Moines on August 31, 1947 to Worth and Doris (Drake) Henry.
Billy Joe retired as a custodian from Southeast Polk Schools – where he was a SUPER fan and loved attending all athletic events. He was a member of Runnells Christian Church. Billy Joe loved camping and attending the Iowa State Fair. Everyone he met was a “friend”!
Billy Joe is survived by his brothers, Rodney Henry and Garold Henry; sister, Marlene (Lyle) Gulling; nieces and nephews, Janna (Matthew) Rensch, Mark (Shelley) Henry; Tracy (Tod) Smith, Jim (Monica) Gulling, Michael Henry, Alan (Lori) Henry, Amanda (Travis) Hitchcock, and many great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters-in-law, Sherry Henry and Sherrill Henry and niece, Debra Gulling.
Family will greet guests on Saturday, March 1, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., at Runnells Christian Church, 309 Brown Street, Runnells, Iowa. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church. He will be laid to rest at Lowman Cemetery in Runnells, Iowa.
Memorial contributions may be directed to either Runnells Christian Church, where Billy Joe had been a lifetime member or UnityPoint Hospice, where he received excellent care.

As a former SEP student and athlete (class of 1993), I have fond memories of Billy Joe! He was such a nice and caring man. I am sorry for your loss - Billy Joe made this world a better place!
