William “Bill” Fisher
Des Moines

William “Bill” Edward Fisher was born in Des Moines, Iowa on August 12, 1931 to William and Thelma Fisher. He passed away quietly on July 4, 2024, at Calvin Community.

Bill was married to Betty Jane Christofferson in 1950. They had a son, Bill Jr. and a daughter Linda. In 2001, Bill married Jeanne Erickson and they spent the rest of their lives enjoying family, watching University of Iowa sports teams on TV, doing some fishing, traveling and supporting Prairie Meadows Casino.

Bill was also a lifelong Iowa Hawkeye fan. He would have many adventurous trips to Iowa City with family and/or friends. Iowa wins were celebrated immensely and losses never interfered with their fun. The stories of those legendary trips continue to be spread to younger family members by his younger brothers, his older nephews and his son.

Bill was a lifelong Southsider. As the oldest brother out of 9 children, he often would enlist the help of one or more of his sisters in delivering newspapers on his paper route. He frequently spent time with one or more of his brothers working on cars, hunting pheasants or fishing. He was close to many of his friends, but always had time for his family, especially when it was needed. Eventually, he became known as the “Good Brother”, so named by his sister-in-law Peggy.

Bill is preceded in death by both his parents; his wife Jeanne; daughter, Linda Lester; sister, Lynn Fisher; brother, Bob Fisher; sister-in-law, Marilyn Fisher; brothers-in-law, Ken King, Don Baker, Mike Agey and Bob Geil.

Bill is survived by his son Bill Jr. (Deb); and Jeanne’s children, Kim (Randy) Post: Connie (Richard) Eubanks, Jimmy (Debbie) Copic; also five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Baker, Beverly Russo, Kay King and Sandy Agey; brothers, Dick (Christie) Fisher and Jim (Peggy) Fisher; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will greet friends Thursday, July 11, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Bill will be laid to rest at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Iowa Commission for the Blind in loving memory of Bill and Jeanne Fisher.
