Winnie Curtis

Winnie Leota Curtis, 70, of Des Moines, Iowa passed away on June 27, 2026 at Taylor House in Des Moines, Iowa.

She was born January 24, 1956 to RJ and Geraldine (Fraaken) Peckham in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Winnie graduated from East High School in Des Moines, Iowa class of 1974. On April 24, 1976 she married the love of her life Tom Curtis and they had two children from this union.

Winnie worked many different jobs in her lifetime. She worked mostly as a daycare provider and became “Aunt Winnie” to all of her day care kids. Winnie also worked for Lil’ General Sick Bay, Methodist Hospital as a unit clerk, Vets Memorial Auditorium, and at the sky glider at the Iowa State Fair.

She enjoyed crafting with her girlfriends, racing, the Chicago Cubs, and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Winnie is survived by her children, Randall (Misty) Peckham and Debra (Gary) Faust; and her favorite grandson, Cole Peckham.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Tom Curtis; parents; sister, Sheila Mundell; and brother, Wesley Peckham Sr.

Winnie’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Penny Dickey who has been a lifelong friend and trusted caregiver.

Family will greet friends Monday, July 6, 2026 from 10:00 to 12:00 p.m. with memorial service at 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Interment to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Avenue in Des Moines.
