Service Details
Wayne Lee Howlett passed away peacefully on his 90th birthday on Friday, November 3, 2023. He was born the son of Wilford and Darline (Poffenberger) Howlett in Des Moines, Iowa.
Wayne proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from June 1951 to June 1953. He worked for Firestone for 29 years. He enjoyed Hawkeye sports, music, joking, and time at the lake.
He is lovingly survived by his children, Susan (Mark) Bricker of Altoona, and Steve Howlett of Des Moines; sister, Beverly (Ralph) Woods; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Dorothy; and daughter, Joan.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 10, 2023, with a memorial service following at 12:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, Iowa.

Wayne and his wife Dorothy both sang in the Park Avenue Christian Church Adult Choir for many years. The choir misses them both. He is singing with the heavenly choir now. Condolences for his family and friends.

I always enjoyed visiting with Wayne and listening to his many many stories of his life and how he met Dorothy when I took him home communion. Enjoyed his little dog too.
