Service Details

Virginia Ann Larson was born in Wright County, Iowa on July 21, 1925 to Joachim and Hansena (Asbe) Larson. She was raised on the farm with 11 siblings: brothers Harley, Marshall, Jerome, twin brother, Vernon, and Luther; sisters Harriet, Anna Mae, Viola, Lavon, Lorraine, and Shirley.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, siblings and many Larson and Logli extended family members. Left to cherish her memory are her son Mark (Ronda) Logli and daughter, Ann (Bill) Davis; grandsons Julio Logli, Mario (Patricia) Logli, Jonathan Masri and great grandsons Logan, Lincoln and Ledger Logli; and also many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Following her graduation from Thompson High School in 1943, Virginia moved to Ankeny. She worked at the Ordnance Plant, among other jobs.

Virginia married Richard Logli on November 16, 1947 and they shared 61 happy years together. Virginia often said that she had lived her dream life – which was to marry a nice man and be a mother – and what a wonderful mother she was to Mark and Ann. Virginia loved being a homemaker and she created a place of warmth and love. She was a great cook who made perfect holiday meals. She was creative and artistic, and her home reflected her talents.

Richard and Virginia met when they were teenagers and were devoted to each other. Richard said of Virginia that she was beautiful inside and out. During their years together, they traveled to many parts of the country and especially enjoyed fishing trips to Canada. They had the special experience of traveling to Italy and Norway to see where their respective families had lived before emigrating to America. What they treasured most was time spent with family.

Virginia was gentle, kind, patient, warm, generous and thoughtful. Her home was always a welcoming place. She had such an appreciation of God’s creation and especially loved flower gardening, animals, collecting rocks and she was particularly known for her love of birds and chickens. She loved country music. She also loved playing cards, Yahtzee and other games. Reading and cross-stitch were hobbies she greatly enjoyed.

Virginia adored her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren but she also loved all children. For many years she was a Sunday School and pre-school teacher and a Bluebird Leader.

Most importantly, Virginia was a woman of strong faith. Well-worn Bibles, prayer and devotional books were among her possessions. She read her Bible and devotionals daily, for as long as she was able and often played hymns on her keyboard piano. Virginia trusted in Jesus as her Savior and we have great comfort in knowing that she is now in her eternal home in heaven, reunited with her beloved husband and dear family members.

The family is especially grateful to the Unity Point Hospice Team and other Unity Point staff who provided the best of care along the way. Special thanks also for the love, care, prayers and support of family and friends.

Any memorial donations may be made to the Ankeny Area Historical Society.

Mama, what a blessing you were to all of us and always will be. We love you forever.
