Service Details

Sean Paul Pattschull April 23,2001-December 23, 2023

“I could have let my family write my obituary after I was gone but there were some things I wanted to be sure and say in my own words. So here it goes. I died helping my cousin, Nichlas Chesher, who also passed. My car left the highway, struck a tree, and burst into flames. Do not worry, I was gone before the fire and knew I was going to crash. My last words were of course cuss words because there was nothing I could do to stop what happened.”

Sean was born to his loving mother, Gina Martin, and father, John Pattschull on April 23, 2001, in Des Moines, Iowa. His mother loved him no matter what and would be there for advice no questions asked. He often stopped to have Friday night visits with her and still told her I love you, sealed with a kiss. She taught him how to nurture and find good in everyone. His father would play video games, take trips to California, and always wanted to have fun, with drive-in movies, board games, and dinner. He was also fortunate to have a loving supportive family who assisted in raising the young man you knew.

He attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School for pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten, then went to Jefferson Elementary. He also attended Brody Middle School for a short time, before attending Christ the King Catholic School. He went to Dowling Catholic High School and was dually enrolled in the automotive classes at DMACC. His time spent at Dowling is where he met his closest friends. He played football and made it to the Dome several times. He also played soccer but just for fun. He volunteered at Ruby Van Meter School, the Festival of Trees, and the Iowa State Seat Project. He graduated from Dowling in 2019 and went on to DMACC.

He worked at the Pancake House, construction, Gabus Ford, and until his death at TBK Automotive.

His friends would say that he was the life of the party, the spark that ignited joy in every gathering. His presence was like a firecracker waiting to burst (exciting, beautiful, loud, and contagious). His infectious smile, laughter, support, and use of idioms will be missed the most by everyone who knew him.

Sean is lovingly survived by his best friend, 2nd mother, and brother he never had, his sister, Maria Pattschull and her fiancé, Jesse Chapman; his rock, advisor, and biggest supporter, his nana, Carmie Renda; his aunt, Ginny Renda (Claude Boyle) who kept him on the straight and narrow and helped with his spiritual side; his stepfather, Shawn “Bubba” Hatfield who was around to assist in car building or repair, audience for games in high school, and would be available at a moment notice to pick him up; his grandparents, who took care of him and supported him while they were on earth; his girlfriend and love of his life, Megan Jahn who made him a romantic and pushed him to try new things; his dog, Oakley who made him responsible for something other than himself; his best friends were like brothers and sisters, who are always there, taught him calmness, fun, and adventure; his uncle, Mark Martin (Georgia) taught him about crabs, that’s an inside joke; cousins, Alex Martin, Cami Martin, Emily Martin, and Rachael Belding; his uncle, Jonny Martin (Sarah) who everyone compares him to; his grandpa, John Martin (Terri); stepbrother, Austin; aunt, MaryKay Chesher; and many cousins.

“My family and friends please don’t cry, find joy in the memories we had together, and share them with everyone. Most of all continue to nurture each other. I will be in your hearts to guide you toward the right path. Even though I am gone, my spirit for life remains in each of you. Now I get to travel the world!”
