Steven E. Keene
June 14, 1966 — October 02, 2023
Steven Edward “The King” Keene, 57, of West Des Moines, Iowa died unexpectedly while at work on Monday, October 2, 2023.
Steve was born June 14, 1966, in Whitman, Massachusetts. At the age of nine months, Steve was adopted by Cyril A. and Elaine M. Keene.
Steve served proudly in the U. S. Army from 1984 - 1988. Following his service in the military, he began his driving career in which he was accredited many awards, including over 3 million safe driving miles and multiple other recognitions over his 30 year career. He was most recently driving for SAIA LTL Freight for the last seven years.
In August of 1997, Steve met Becky, the love of his life, and soon called Iowa his home. Steve and Becky were united in marriage on September 25, 2004.
Steve enjoyed grilling out; his favorite meal was a good medium-well steak and a Greek salad. He also enjoyed family gatherings, especially around the holidays, tending to his lawn and home improvements, helping his neighbors and spending time with his family, especially his wife, Becky, and two granddaughters, Mylah and Sylvie, who were his pride and joy.
Steve was a friendly guy who never met a stranger. He was a true, by-the-book man, looking for perfection and was trying to pass on what he learned in life. He was a sweet, loyal, and stand-up guy with a great sense of humor. We lost a good one, but we’re all lucky to have known him.
Steve supported his family and made sure they never went without. He is survived by his loving wife, Becky; his three sons, Steven (and Kelsee) of Des Moines, IA, Joshua of Austin, TX, and Nicholas (and Bridget) of Des Moines, IA; his sister, Donna Keene of East Bridgewater, MA; and his granddaughters, Mylah and Sylvie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cyril and Elaine Keene and his beloved pug, Gizmo.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service with military honors will begin at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 16, 2023, also at Hamilton’s.

Our deepest condolences to you and the family. I just realized that I know Becky from maybe a Church event. We know Steve, the son, who is our wonderful letter carrier! Our prayers are with you during this difficult time. From staff of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.

We are so sorry for your loss. We knew Steve growing up in Whitman. We haven't seen him in probably 35 years. He was part of the Sportsman's Trail crew and we hung out most days. I can remember a lot of good times with him. Building forts, watching "star case" in his room, playing sports, and rough housing, cruising in our cars...on and on...the good old days. Laura and I actually picked him up the day he enlisted in the military...we brought him to the recruiting center....the next time we saw him was at our wedding in 1990. We have so many good memories of him...I am glad to see that he went on and had a terrific family and a wonderful life...what was said in his obituary was spot on....good guy! God bless him and God bless the family....
