Roma Lee Shalin, 88, died Thursday, March 26, 2026 at Altoona Nursing & Rehab after a long battle with Leukemia. She was born October 5, 1937 to William and Clara (Tuetken) Lang in Hopkinton, Iowa.

Roma grew up on an 88-acre farm between Monticello and Hopkinton and graduated from Hopkinton High School, where she was crowned band queen. After graduation, she pursued a career in nursing, earning her LPN in Cedar Rapids.

In 1958, Roma married Henry Semler, and together they raised their family in Ankeny. After 22 years of marriage, the couple parted ways, and Roma relocated to Florida, where she continued her career in healthcare. It was there that she met the love of her life, J. Lloyd Shalin. The two were married in 1984 and made their home in Arizona, where they remained until his passing.

Roma was an avid reader and especially enjoyed watching the View and going to Diamondbacks baseball games with her husband Lloyd.

Roma is survived her children, DeAnn Rossetti (widow of James C Flack) and Kevin Semler, as well as grandson, Nicholas Flack.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Lloyd Shalin; son, Philip Semler; and brother, Ron Lang.
