Raymond Quijano
June 17, 1940 — May 14, 2026
Raymond “Porky” Quijano, 85, of Des Moines, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Porky was born on June 17, 1940, in Des Moines to Camilo and Rose (Beltrame) Quijano and made his home in the Des Moines area throughout his life. He worked as a tire builder for Armstrong Tire, was a talented mechanic who could fix nearly any car, and proudly owned Los Compadre’s Restaurant for many years. He was a hardworking man who devoted himself fully to everything he did. Throughout South Des Moines, Porky was known not only for his love of sports and Los Compadre’s, but also for the many lasting friendships he built along the way.
More than anything, Porky treasured time spent with his family and friends. He never met a stranger, could strike up a conversation with anyone, and had a smile that could light up any room. His warm heart, kind spirit, and generosity and his unforgettable presence made him truly one of a kind.
Porky’s love of sports and adventure stayed with him throughout his life. In his younger years, he played fast-pitch baseball and basketball, bowled in leagues, and enjoyed golfing. After retiring, he looked forward to playing golf every day with his buddies. He also loved riding his Harley motorcycles, taking road trips, enjoying classic cars, attending car shows—especially the Good Guys Car Show—and going to Indianola Bike Nights with his family. Traveling brought him great happiness, especially his annual fishing trip to Canada. In his later years, he found joy in riding his electric tricycle through the neighborhood with family and friends. One phrase that perfectly captured his spirited way of living was, “Let’s go and keep ’em Comin’.”
Whether he was riding his Harley, attending car shows, traveling, or simply being surrounded by family and friends, Porky embraced life with energy, laughter, and a love that touched so many. The memories he created will be treasured forever by all who knew and loved him. Porky is survived by his children, Linda McFall, Ramona Anderson (Robert), Janice Guessford, and Peggy Cutts; his brothers, Richard and David Quijano; his sisters, Rosemary, Loretta, Cecilia, Madelena, and Nita; his grandchildren, Ryan, Joni, Nick, Paige, Kylie, Michael, Matthew, and Gracie Ray; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and his special friend, Paula Miller.
He was preceded in death by his son, John Quijano; and his parents.
A Celebration of Raymond’s Life will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Foundation Association.

Porky loved life and made great memories with everyone he met. We've had fun sitting with him at the Principal Charity Classic as well as meeting him out and about throughout the past 20+ years. He loved his family, friends and fun! What a great man to have known.
