Patsy Joan (Rupe) Monahan passed away on February 26, 2024. She was in hospice care at home under the care of Melissa Shinn and Joshua Rupe.

Patsy was born on March 13, 1937, in Ira, Iowa to John and Pearl Gearhart. She had 9 siblings: Laverna (Layman) Cornelison, John “Darwin” (Maryllis) Gearhart, Delbert Gearhart, James “Jimmy” (Valerie) Gearhart, Janet (Francis) Humes, Sarah (Robert) Westerbeck, Ronald “Ronnie” (Marjorie) Gearhart, Sandra “Sandy” (Greg) Lee and Jolene (Daryal) Clay. In 1963, Patsy married Michael Rupe, Sr. in Sioux Falls, SD. Their family included: Rodney (Rod), Melissa (Shinn), Zachary (Scott) (wife Kari), Michael (Mike) Jr. and Joshua (Josh). Patsy had 12 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. Later she married Max Monahan.

She was proceeded in death by her parents (John and Pearl), brothers (Delbert and Ronnie), sister (Janet), ex-husband (Michael Sr.), husband (Max) and son (Rod).

She grew up in the Ira/Mingo Iowa area. She attended Mingo Community Schools where she played basketball for two years. She finished high school at Oak Park Academy in Nevada and graduated in 1956. She moved to Souix City where she met and married Michael Rupe. After her divorce from Michael, she moved back to the Ira/Mingo area and raised her family. Her last few years she lived in and around Des Moines, Iowa with Melissa Shinn and Joshua Rupe. She worked several years as a lead waitress at Bosselman-Hartner Truck Plaza (near Adverterland) and finally retired on her 75th birthday from her part time position at Git N Go. When she could she attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She and Michael became best friends and talked about their kids several times a week. She loved her family unconditionally, enjoyed spending time with them and looked forward to seeing everyone at family gatherings. She enjoyed playing games on her tablet and talking/laughing with Melissa and Josh daily.

She will be remembered as a very loving and caring person that put her family first. Her smile lit up the room.
