February 08, 1956 — February 09, 2024
Michael James O’Donnell
of Des Moines, Iowa
Michael O’Donnell, age 68, passed away on Friday, February 9, 2024. He was born the son of James and Shelia (Hobin) O’Donnell on February 8, 1956, in Peoria, Illinois.
Michael graduated from Central High School, class of 1974, in Peoria, Illinois. After graduation, he later attended Illinois State University and graduated in 1979. Michael moved to Des Moines in the late 80’s and has resided there since. He began working for Wellmark in the IT department until his retirement.
Michael was a lifelong Chicago Cubs & Chicago Bears fan! He truly loved all sports, but Chicago teams always had his heart. Making connections with people was important to Michael and he loved to make new friends wherever he went. He never knew a stranger and he developed many strong bonds with those around him.
He is lovingly survived by his daughters Allison and Sara, and his siblings Stephen (Daphne) O’Donnell and Betsy (Nicholas Tkaczuk) O’Donnell.
Celebration of Michael’s Life will be held in Des Moines at a later date.

I first met Mike at Wellmark in 1997. We all have our favorite OD stories, one of mine was when Mike lost some weight, he would walk around the office holding his pants up. We got him a belt so he didn't lose his pants at work!
To his family, he will be missed by the many people that knew him.

oh, Betsy, this is such sad news. I am so sorry. Condolences to you and Steve. He is way too young. I wondered if he had still been living in DesMoines. Condolences to his daughters too. Aunt Shelia showed their pictures every chance she got. She was a proud grandma. We lost our brother, Jude in August. He would have been 65. Sad loss of ODonnell men.
