Larry West

Larry Edward West, 80, passed away November 28, 2025, at UnityPoint Iowa Lutheran Hospital.
Larry was born May 13, 1945, in Centerville, Iowa to Aubrey and Iva (Garr) West. He grew up in Livonia, Missouri and moved to the Des Moines area in 1988. Larry enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, playing basketball and mumble peg. His favorite television shows were Gunsmoke, The Six Million Dollar Man and Walker, Texas Ranger. Larry loved cowboys and was always wearing hats and boots. He enjoyed listening to music, one of his favorites was Johnny Cash. Larry also loved to dance, especially at family reunions where everyone would be playing music. He was always up for a McDonald’s run. Larry had a warm soul and he never met a stranger. Above all else, he loved his family and Jesus.
Larry is survived by his siblings, Linda Cox, Faye Clark, Linn (Linda) West and Elmer (Kathy) West; his Aunt Esther Garr; and many nieces, nephews and cousins by the dozens.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, William West, Delano West, Eva Mae McCaughey, Clarence West, Jerry West and Dwaine West.
The family will greet friends Friday, December 12, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the funeral to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Larry will be laid to rest at St. John’s Cemetery in Livonia, Missouri. A Celebration of Life will be held in Larry’s honor next spring.

To all of Larry's family... I feel your loss. He was such a darling, funny, endearing man. He could talk your leg off! How he loved his trips to McDonalds, Diet Pepsi, Gun Smoke, his brothers and sisters. I will miss his smiles, his hugs, him talking about the weather, multiple watches on each arm... on the outside of his sleeves
