LaVonne Lorraine McFarland, 73, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at 12:15 a.m. at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

LaVonne was born December 13, 1949, in Des Moines, Iowa to Charles and MaryBell Stewart. She married Arthur “Butch” McFarland on March 3, 1978. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, reading romance novels, and being in the warmth of the sunshine. She will be lovingly remembered as strong-willed and stubborn.

LaVonne is survived by her loving husband, Arthur, Sr.; children, Trina Downen (Roger), Tonya Downen (William), Edward (Jessica) Downen, Kimberly McFarland (Bruce), Arthur Lane (Serenia) McFarland, Jr., and LaToyia Watson (Jesse); 28 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; siblings, Charles (Maxine) Stewart, Jr. and Linda Stewart.

LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and MaryBell Stewart; sisters, Geraldine Madison and Paulette Moser; and granddaughter, Tiffany Recia Downen.

Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
