Joy Lynn Moorhead
January 13, 1976 — November 24, 2025
Joy Lynn Moorhead, born January 13, 1976, entered into eternal rest on November 24, 2025.
Joy was the proud and devoted mother of Donovan Tomes and Annabelle Tomes, who were the center of her world and her greatest joy. Her love for them was boundless and evident to everyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her fathers, Larry “Bean” Moorhead and Donnis Wipf, Grandma Betty, Grandpa Willard, Grandma Blossom, and two angel babies she longed to meet again in Heaven.
A graduate of North High School in Des Moines (Class of 1994), Joy began serving others early in life as a Candy Striper volunteer at a local hospital. She went on to spend many years working in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Mercy Hospital, where her compassion and selflessness touched countless lives.
Joy was one of the most giving souls anyone could meet. She was always willing to help others, even if it meant giving her last penny. She was a devoted aunt, famous for giving rides on her motorized wheelchair and hosting fun-filled sleepovers.
A loyal Green Bay Packers fan, Joy loved cheering on her team, watching WWE wrestling, and enjoying a meal at Olive Garden. Through every challenge life brought her, Joy’s faith in Jesus never wavered. She believed deeply in His plan and faced her hardships with courage, grace, and unshakable faith. We find comfort in knowing that Joy is now pain free and basking in the glory of God’s kingdom, surrounded by love everlasting.
She is survived by her beautiful children Donovan and Annabelle Tomes, her devoted mom Jona Wipf, her sister April Mahler (Travis), her brothers Dustin Wipf (Kim), Jon Moorhead (Kathy) and Scott Moorhead (Renee) and an extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and an uncle who loved her deeply and will carry her memory always.
Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Adventure Life Church, 1700 8th Street SW, Altoona. Joy's request was for everyone to wear their favorite sports team to the funeral. Friends and family are welcome to a luncheon immediately following the service. Disposition will be at Berwick Cemetery in Berwick, IA following the luncheon.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

My beautiful girl..you have inspired so many of us with your determination and your will to live as active of a life as you could. You were so brave in making this final decision for your everlasting life. I could not be prouder to call you my daughter and to be "your person" for the last 20 years. No more needles, doctor visits, ambulance rides, nursing homes, long er waits...no more lonliness , pain or tears for you Joy. YOU DID IT..YOU ARE FREE!! I will ache to see your face again and to see my phone light up with your name. It is beyond reality to think you are really gone from this earth...oh what fun you must be having in heaven..that brings me so much comfort. I will see you again when the Lord calls me home, but until then I thank God for giving you to me for almost 50 years. I love you my precious girl. My heart is with you and your dad💞💞
