James Clarence Rolan, age 81, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2024.

Jim was born December 24, 1942, in Deadwood, South Dakota to James and Jane (McManigal) Rolan. He enjoyed being outside, fishing, hunting, and playing golf. He was a NASCAR fan and liked watching western movies. Jim played horseshoes and pool. He was a barber his entire life and was undoubtedly known as “the best barber on the Southside”. Jim was a friend to all and never knew a stranger. He had a very giving heart and would do anything for anyone in need. He also loved all his pet animals.

He is survived by his wife, Laura; children, Tammy Spencer, Mike (LouAnn) Murphy, Michelle Murphy-Clausen (Robert Clausen), Dedrie Murphy-Lidstrom (Erik Lidstrom), Patrick (Lisa) Murphy, and Sean Murphy; grandchildren, Michelle, Shane, Sarah, James, Arin, Beth, Steve, Brittainy, Nathan, Brandon, Devin, Felicia, and Michael; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Mercedes, Sophia, Cameron, Carter, Loy, Lindsey, Landen, Sawyer, Ariana, Ava, James, and Quinn; sister, Donna Allen; sister-in-law, Judy Rolan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family and many special friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Jane Rolan; brothers, Bill, Terry, and Ronald Rolan; sister, Pat (Larry) and his son, Jesse Mueller.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, with a time of fellowship and refreshments to follow until 5:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
