Helen "Kaye" Christenson
March 02, 1945 — November 11, 2023
Helen Kaye Christenson, 78, of West Des Moines, IA passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, November 11, 2023, surrounded by family. A Visitation has been scheduled for Monday, November 20, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by Memorial Services from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., concluding with a Luncheon from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway, West Des Moines, IA 50266, where Kaye was an active church member.
Kaye was born on March 2, 1945, in Akron, Iowa growing up on a farm with her parents, Bill and Helen Erks, along with two sisters, Phyllis and Joyce. After graduating from Akron High School, she attended and graduated from Morningside Nursing School. Kaye married Jim Christenson in 1967 and was married for 39 years until Jim passed away in 2006. Kaye worked for many years in the Norwalk Community School District as a school nurse. She also worked part-time at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in the adolescent behavioral health unit until her retirement.
Jim and Kaye spent a lot of time in Arizona as snowbirds. Kaye loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and granddaughters. She loved and adored her granddaughters, following and supporting them to dance competitions and athletic, school, and church events. They were her pride and joy and she was no doubt their number one fan.
Kaye is survived by her son Lance, his wife Angie, and granddaughters Carly and Paige of West Des Moines. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Church of Hope. Condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

I worked with Kaye at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. I have so many wonderful, and funny memories of shifts with Kaye. One morning we were in our pre-shift report. Someone brought Scentsy samples for us to smell. I was going through them and said to Kaye, oooooh smell this one! I love it! Its Evergreen Trees! She said, What? Mozzarella Cheese? Give me that! We laughed, and I probably told her to turn her hearing aides up! Then I smelled another sample. It was Silver Bells. Lets just say she didnt hear that one correctly either, and she was not in a hurry to smell it!
Kaye always loved to share stories with us about Carly and Paige. She loved her family dearly. Her work family loved Kaye.
Thank you for sharing your Mom/Grandma with us. She will be so missed. Much love and many prayers for all of you. I have no doubt that she is in Heaven, and making everyone laugh up there!
