Evelyn Morse, the daughter of Adolph and Colleen (Cordes) Morse was born July 1, 1947 in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was raised in Marshalltown by her grandparents Alfred and Dorette Cordes and graduated from the Marshalltown High School in 1965. She wanted to serve her country so she enlisted in the U.S. Army. While in Germany, Evie met Rudy Alcorta, who was also in the U.S. Army. The military couple was united in marriage in Switzerland in 1967, during the Vietnam War. The couple served and lived in various locations while in the U.S. Army. Evie was proud of her service as a medic. After the birth of their first child in Arizona, they relocated back to Marshalltown where she was a nurse at the Veterans Administration Hospital. In 1976, following the birth of their second child, they moved to Des Moines where their third child was born. She continued her nursing career with Dr. Holzworth’s office in Urbandale, Iowa then later went to work in the Administration Department at Broadlawn’s Medical Center.
Evie is survived by her children, Teresa (Robert) Sink of Colfax, Iowa, Rudy Alcorta of Des Moines and Anitra (Layne) Horn of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Jessica (Justin) James, Colton Sink, Alayna Horn and Rudy Alcorta Jr.; as well as great-grandchildren, Jonas, Jeremiah and Jenna.
Evie was preceded in death by her husband, Rudy in 2021; a sister, Nancy in infancy; her parents; and her grandparents.
The Alcorta family wishes to thank all friends and family, as well as the workers at EveryStep Kavanagh House during our mother’s challenges and the past few weeks.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Evie.

We were instant friends when you started at Des Moines General Hospital back in the early 80s. I thought you were the funniest, smartest person I had ever met. We had that whole floor convinced we were in charge and all had to pass by us to gain admission. Especially the Docs! We had a ball!!! It seems like I have known you forever and as really good friends we didnt always keep in touch but when we got together it was seamless...like we had never been apart. I realized then, as now, all my secrets we shared were safe with you and appreciated. I will miss you so much but you are where you need to be, no more pain and no more worries. I know you will be kicking some celestial butt up there but from time to time remember our antics as I will here. I have alot of great memories and they will be with me till I come to visit you. Again love you!!!!!!
