David Hawkins

David Hawkins, 76, passed away July 1, 2011 in Urbandale. David was born December 10, 1934 in Monroe, IA to Earl and Icle Hawkins. David’s wife Sara preceded him in April of this year.

David retired as Vice-Chairman of The Mid-America Group where he was employed from 1966 to 1999. He also served as President of Coldwell Banker Mid-America Group, Realtors®, a subsidiary of The Mid-America Group for seven years prior to his retirement.

David was previously a member of the American Institute of CPA’s, served on many boards including United Way of Greater Des Moines, West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce, University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences and Norwest Bank Iowa.

He is survived by his brother, Earl Hawkins of Bella Vista, AR; sister, Gwen Churchill of Grinnell, IA; sister-in-law, Sabra Schippers of West Des Moines; and many nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, July 6 at 10:30 a.m. at New Testament Baptist Church, 3020 E. 38th Street, Des Moines. Burial will be at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
