Mildred E. Stewart

Mildred E. Stewart, 91, died on May 28, 2011, at her home in Urbandale. She was born to Earl & Blossom McGrew on April 24, 1920 in Des Moines, Iowa. Mildred was the widow of the late Frank A. Stewart, President of O’Dea Finance. She was a lifelong resident of Des Moines.

Mildred worked for over forty years as a Legislative Secretary for the State of Iowa. She was a member of Union Park United Methodist Church, a Hospice Volunteer, a Terrace Hill Tour Guide, active in the Republican Party and a member of the East High Alumni Association. She and her husband in support of their daughter established Parents of Retarded Children Association.

She is survived by her two daughters, Julie (Don) Lyon, Escondido, CA, and Teri Ann Stewart, Glenwood, IA; her two granddaughters, Kim (Bill) Hall, Chicago, Illinois, and Emily (Brent Stephens) Kolker, Oakland, CA; great-grandchildren, Stewart and Sarah Hall and Marin Stephens.

Services will be held at Union Park United Methodist Church on Thursday at 11 a.m., followed by a luncheon with visitation at Hamilton’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, beginning at 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. A private burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Union Park United Methodist Church.
