Darlene LaVonne Gallaher, 94, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2011.
Darlene was born on March 31, 1917, to Ezra and Minnie (Hersbergen) Plummer. She was a lifelong resident of Des Moines. Darlene was a homemaker and took great pride in taking care of her family and her home.
She is survived by her children, Donna Nicodemus (Chuck), Steven Silver (Joan), Richard Silver (Kathy), and Susan Gallaher; her sister, Betty McClanahan; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Private family services were held in Ivy, Iowa.

You said to me last time I visited you in the nursing home, "Don't forget me" and you also said, "Oh honey, I loved you the first day I met you." So I'm checking back in today to let you know that I never have. I think of you often; you taught me so many things along the way. I will always admire the woman you were and the friend you were to me and my children. We talked sometimes several times a day about family situations, crafts, sewing, cooking, etc. You taught me to roof and to lay sod and to make cherry pies and how to sew special seams and buttonholes for clothing. I love my own mother, but you taught me so much more than she did; you not only listened to me, you actually heard me with your heart and we shared so many ideas and feelings. Oftentimes you would call and tell me you were making Dutch lettuce or a special desert and wanted me to come visit. You were such a special person to me and always will remain in my thoughts and memories. Rest in peace.
