Sylvesta Rumley

Sylvesta Jean Rumley, age 61, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Harmony House Health Care Center in Waterloo, Iowa.
Born January 4, 1950 in Des Moines, Jean was the daughter of George and Veralee (Vaughn) Higgins. She graduated from Des Moines Tech High School and Americana Beauty School earning her Cosmetology license. After graduation she opened and operated Veralee’s Hairitage. Jean also worked as a real estate broker, and with handicapped adults. She enjoyed helping others and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include, second mother, Alice Jefferson; her children, Arleta (Larry) Foster-Botts, Breanna Hart, Armon Hart, and Demarco Rumley, Tyler Rumley; brothers, Terry Higgins, Tracy Higgins, Monroe Hall; goddaughters, Alberta Hill, Allene Hall, Darlene Miller-Cooper, 28 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many friends and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, George Higgins, sister, Maxine Mahoney; grandson, Willie Manning; and great-grand daughter, Shaniya Nichols.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mercy 9th floor nurses, Mary from Grandview Care and Nursing Home in Oelwein, Iowa, and Harmony House Health Care Center for all the love and care given to the family.
