Henry "Jimmy" James Holland, 92, passed away at his home April 3, 2011.

Henry was born October 15, 1918, in Des Moines. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Henry retired from the City of Des Moines. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, coaching baseball and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Henry was a people person and never met a stranger, appealing to all generations. He was a very loving father and grandfather. Henry was a member of Maple Street Baptist Church, the American Legion and the Masons. He was the founder and president of the Midwest Quartet Convention, singing with various groups ie; Spiritual Aires, Spiritual Keys, Holland Family Sings and Christland Singers. Henry's secret to longevity was beans and oatmeal.

Henry is survived by his children, Sandra Logan, Sherry (Tom) Prescott, Sonia Dobbins Gordon, JoAnn Holland, Henry (Marvella) Holland, Matthew Holland and Gregory Holland; sister, Florence (Roscoe) Lockett; and five generations of grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Maple Street Baptist Church, 1552 Maple Street. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
