Mary F. Allen, 87, was born May12, 1923, in Redfield, Iowa and died at 5:15a.m. Sunday, February 13, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
She enjoyed gardening with her granddaughter, making dolls, crafts, watching and reading westerns and enjoyed working at her job.
Mary is survived by her son, Doug Darby, 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Don Darby, husband, Warren G. Allen, and two sisters, Anna Brown and Iona Van De Boe.
Family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 15, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held, 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 16, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home in Des Moines, Iowa, with burial to follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa.

I had the honor to work at Erickson Displays with Mary for many years. She was by far the hardest working person they had! When I first started I thought what a gruff little lady but soon realized what a peach she was. We had something in common in that we spoke our mind. When I was having a bad day in the office I'd take a walk to the shop and she always had me smiling. in no time at all. I dearly loved that woman!

Larry and Betsi,
My thoughts and prayers are with you. I only had the chance to meet her once but will always remember her smile. Betsi was so kind to her and always made sure she was taken care of.
