Diane E. Plumb, 66, was born May 21, 1944, in Des Moines, the daughter of Robert and Doris Stanton. She passed away after a year long valiant battle with lung and bone cancer on Thursday, January 20, 2011, at Taylor House.
Diane is survived by her loving husband, Terry Plumb; children, John (Kelli) Plumb, Chris Plumb (Patty Smith) and Dawnette (Chris) Smith; grandchildren, Nicholas Plumb, Nathan Plumb (Cassey Porter), Nevin Plumb, Jordan Cutler, Caleb Cutler, Mackenzie Smith and Marie Smith; great-granddaughters, Delaney and Isabella Plumb; goddaughter, Mindy O‘Donnell; sisters, Pam (Raleigh) Dunston and Terrie (James) O’Donnell; brother-in-law, Larrey Plumb and sister-in-law, Sheryle Plumb.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, January 24, 2011, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Taylor House or the Shriners Hospital for Children in Minneapolis.

I am thinking of you all today.
Diane was a great lady. I remember her as a very tolerant, patient woman, who handled giggling girls and slumber parties with vigilance and grace. Seriously - facing said giggling girls now in my own life, I don't know how she did it! The singing, the need for a steady stream of snacks, and the drama - she handled us all with a smile, a sarcastic quip (in the best way), and made us feel at home. Like a mom away from our moms...and she was cool too!
I always felt warmth and welcome when talking to Diane. Having lost Dad recently I know the pain you are feeling now. Remembering the smiles, the stories and the love you have for her will help with your pain. Keeping her in your hearts will help with the healing. It's going to hurt, I won't lie or candy-coat it, but you will find a way to fit her loss into your life.
Dawnette, my sister-friend, I'm sending you my thoughts especially. I cannot be there for an actual hug, but I'm sending out my heart to you. Take deep breaths, accept hugs, allow tears. I love you.
