Karla Kay Kruize

Karla (Heaton) Kruize, 56, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 12, 2011. A visitation will be held on Monday, January 17 from 6 to 8 p.m., at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street in Des Moines. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, January 18 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Humeston Cemetery following a short service at Humeston Baptist Church at 2 p.m.

Karla was born in Corydon, IA on January 20, 1954, to Nora (Heaton) Law and Clarence Heaton. Karla was married to Larry Kruize on June 13, 1991. She graduated from Mormon Trail High School and attended college in Kirksville, MO. She worked many years at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines and was currently working at Terrible’s Casino in Osceola.

Karla loved gardening and music, including playing the piano and organ. She adored her new granddaughter, Abigail and enjoyed spending time with her family. Karla took on the role as family historian spending a lot of time researching and recording genealogies.

Karla is survived by her husband, Larry; daughter Staci (Joel); son Tyler granddaughter Abigail; mother Nora (Harold); brothers Gary (Rhonda), Terry (Jan), Dale (Deb); sister Pam (Greg); sister-in-law Dee; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Clarence and brothers Alan and Larry.
