Service Details
William D. Heberer, 93, passed away Thursday, January 13, 2011, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. He was born March 12, 1917, in Mingo, Iowa, to Athelbert and Margaret (McGill) Heberer. He married Thelma Mattson in 1944.
William served in the Air Force during WWII. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion in Mingo, and Ankeny First United Methodist Church.
William will be remembered by his son, Alan (Renee); grandchildren, Cole (Tricia), Jacquelyn and Alexandra; great-grandsons, Stetson, Keith, and Nash; and great-granddaughter, Laina. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Thelma.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 16, 2011, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the funeral service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ankeny First United Methodist Church or the Ankeny Historical Society in loving memory of William.

Bill was our friend and lunchmate,one of the most admired persons at Nevlin. He was a jolly good fellow, that nobody can deny.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I am glad to have been acquainted with "Little Grandpa." He brought joy to many people. Bless you for helping him to live actively and with dignity and purpose even in his later years.

My deepest symthpathy is extended to you, Alan, and to the rest of your family. I had just been thinking about your father and mother a couple of days ago and wondering if they were still in Ankeny. I see that your mother has passed on also. I remember them as being such a handsome couple, both quiet and caring. And, of course, driving their Cadillac.
My mother was a first cousin of your father. My grandpa was George, a brother, of your Grandpa, Bunce. I have memories of going to your Grandpa's station there on the corner on what is now Hwy 117 just outside of Mingo. I also have lots of fond memories of visiting with your Grandmother, Margaret who cooked at the Jasper County Care Facility for many years. She was always so excited to see us and was such a bright lady.(My brother resided at the facility also).
There has recently been an advertisement on KCCI during the 10PM news for an agricultural product. In the background is a semi with the name "Heberer" on it. I have wondered if that is some of our relation. It appears to be a locally produced ad.
