Service Details

Wallace Wayne Black, 66, died Tuesday, January 4, 2011, after a long battle with liver disease. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 8, 2011, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Wally was born October 23, 1944 in Reno, Nevada. He was raised in Illinois and spent most of his life in Iowa. He married Georgia Ilene Howard on February 8, 1964. They were married 47 years and had three children; Michael, Amy and Dorene.

Wally worked for the U.S. Postal Service from 1978 until his retirement in 2000. He enjoyed hunting, fishing with his grandchildren, motorcycles, and working with model trains. He enjoyed working with machines of all types while drinking coffee, was a jack of all trades and known as “Mr. Fix It.”

Wally was preceded in death by his parents Warren and Rose and brother’s William and Warren Michael.

He is survived by his wife Georgia; son, Michael Black of Kansas City, MO; daughter’s, Amy Ward (Greg) and Dorene Ackerman (Jerry); grandchildren Joshua, Caleb, Betsy and Emma; brother, Fred of Stockton, CA; sister, Kitty Simon; stepbrother, Lyle Vandersnick of Paulden, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.
